[SI] "Open" Comments - Part 2

2 GIRLS(?) WRESTLING:
Well, I suppose the mandate was "Open" to anything... :)

MERRILL'S:
Not sure what this is supposed to be saying. Looks like it needs
a little more saturation and contrast/curves? Would like the
"discount" sign to be included rather than cut off, if the
subject is supposed to be the store.

BOKEH LEAVES:
Got potential - bit overexposed top right.

SUSPENSION BRIDGE:
Again, maybe a touch more saturation and contrast needed? And
the main pylon is a little too centred.

PLANE WINDOW:
Certainly wonder what she's thinking about and what she's
listening to looking at this photo. Would like to see her a bit
better, not so dark.

OLD TRUCK GRILL:
Like this one. Reckon it could be made really great, but not
sure how. It's got character, but it's like it's not really
captured to its full potential.

MISTY VALLEY:
Yeah, quite nice. Nothing bad to say I guess. I like it.

FISHING TRAWLER:
Not sure what it is. Maybe the players on the beach are too
central, or the boat is.

HORSE AND FOAL:
I like it. Nothing too bad to say.

SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE:
If I was the photographer of this one, I'd say...

"I know it's sort of cliche, but I was in Sydney for work and
only had an hour spare and had always wanted to try to get a shot
from this spot. I like the lines of the wall on the left leading
to the Opera House, and the SHB framing it and the city. So
there."

FASCINATED FLY:
I like the detail in this one - the fly appears to be looking at
the dewdrop and poking it with it's leg. Whoever photographed
this must be very handsome and popular with the ladies. :)

CLEANSING DROPS:
Oh my. A flower dewdrop refraction with a posing fly cleaning
his legs on a blade of grass. So much to look at. Not just the
2 larger drop refractions, which were probably only a millimetre
diameter, but all the smaller ones on the underside of the blade
of grass. Shame the fly is so dark that there isn't more detail
there. Why didn't the photographer try harder to get the stupid
flash arrangement right? He took heaps of photos and the fly was
so patient with him, you'd think he would have chimped a little
and noticed how dark the stupid fly was! :(

STONE WALL REFLECTION:
I like it. Nice reflection, composition, exposure all seem
about right.

MARILYN:
Oohlala. Quite nice, but agree with other comments about the
eyes. Wish I was able to do a portrait of that quality, mind
you. But from all the "glamour" style shots I've seen, it's all
about the lighting and the eyes, then everything else.

BUSKER:
He's either not very good, or just got there :)
Like it. Maybe try b&w conversion?

SUNSET REFLECTION:
Nice sky and reflection. Reckon with a little PP it could really
jump. Like the flagpole and bird for interest.

DECKCHAIRS:
Not sure what this is about. They've lost their colour, and the
whole image looks undersaturated anyway. Maybe go all the way
and convert to b&w?

YELLOW FLOWERS:
Nowhere to focus. On closer inspection there's lots of bugs on
those flowers, but you really need to look for them. You're not
led to them.

SHELL PUMPS AND OLD TRUCK:
Like the colours in this one. Like to see more detail in the
truck - HDR? Could be really cool. Retro sort of feel. Ooh,
b&w definitely on this one.

ROCKS AND BEACH:
Grey/white rocks not really interesting. The rock formations in
the BG do appear a little more interesting, maybe get closer?
THey look a little OOF. Horizon feels a little tilted to the
right.

ROCKS AND BEACH II:
Same beach? Similar formations, but they look darker. Still
like to get closer to the interesting rock formations. Like the
beach line leading to them, rule of 1/3 etc.

UNDER-STAND:
I quite like this one. Heaps of feet/legs to look at :) LIke
the contrast of lines of the structure and the random feet etc.
Know what I mean? Another for b&w?

DARK/SILHOUETTE SUNSET:
Nice sky. Little dark for me. Would calmer water have reflected
more and lightened up the reflections/FG?

FLUFFY MACRO:
Not sure what it's of. Looks like a macro, but not sure if it's
a dandelion or some other seed type thing. Interesting to look
at. Plenty of texture, and not too shallow DoF for macro.

------------------------------------------------------------------

And that concludes my thoughts on this SI's submissions :)

Overall, my favourites in approximate order were:

OLD MAN - just liked the emotion and potential story there
BARKING DOG - still smile looking at that one :)
ART GALLERY - assume that's what it is anyway
SPALLING WINDOW
SKY SCRAPERS - very clean shot

PS - I actually commented on my own 3 shots. I gave subtle hints
to give the very astute a hint at what 3 they were. Can you
guess which ones they were? :D
