With the possibility of adding the 1D mkIII to our quiver

Don't buy a 1D Mk III until you have seen Canon's next three new
DSLRs. Note *three*. And they will all be **well worth** waiting
for. I cannot emphasise that too strongly.

I was surprised that no announcements were made at PMA, but there are
probably good reasons for that. The 1D Mk III had to be announced
shortly before PMA because there were no Mk IIs remaining.

Yeah, I'm also waiting to see about the 5D's replacement. But it's going to
have to be a whopping improvement to shake me loose from my 5D. In other
words, it's going to have to do things the 5D won't, and there's very little
that my 5D won't do that I need it to.

The 1Ds Mk III will get a sensor with over 20 MP.

The "3D" will get the 1Ds Mk II's 16.8 MP sensor in a body similar to
the 5D, but with full weather sealing.

The 5D will be revised slightly and sell at a lower price point.

The 30D will be replaced by a 40D with 10 MP, to compete head on with
Nikon's D200.

So why only three new models. when I have listed four? That's because
the revised 5D isn't really a new model, just a slightly breathed-on
version of the existing one.

The "3D" (not yet official) is the one I am waiting for because it is
to all intents and purposes a digital version of my EOS 3 35mm FILM
body, which is still a favourite of mine. It's the nearest thing I
can get to a Nikon F100, which was probably the best handling camera I
have ever used.

It is always in my outfit, loaded with Provia 400F. That's FILM, by
the way.

;-)
