Tripod height - advice needed

I am choosing a tripod for my EOS 50 and currently my search has
narrowed down to two Velbon Sherpa models: 250 and 450. The main
difference is their height - 250 is 172 cm + 30 cm elevator slide,
while 450 is 154 cm + 30 cm elevator slide. I am not tall myself - 179
cm - so 250 should be more than enough as far as I can see now, but
it's my first tripod and perhaps I am not taking some scenario or
possibbility into consideration? What do you think?
Does extra height of 450 warrant additional 0.1kg weight and 5cm length
when folded (and +$17)?
