Well, I'm not sure what you mean by, "...dead last in medical care." If
you are applying a socialist measuring stick to medical care, then
perhaps we are dead last. If you measure "medical care" by drug
development, then perhaps we are not dead last. In my case, I foresaw
the fact that I was going to get old and sick, and took steps to provide
myself and my wife for that eventuality by insuring myself against it.
<snipped the rest>
Hit a nerve there, eh? ... the point is that the best medical care
(possibly the best in the world) in the US is only available to the top
5% (probably less) of the US population.
Yes, and the best automobiles in the US are only available to the top 5%
(probably less) of the US population. So what? Why must I assume that
medical care is different from food, clothing, housing, transportation,
or anything else that costs money to get and keep, or anything else that
is necessary to live and enjoy life?
Even the so-called "insured"
are limited by the (varying) restrictions of their HMO's.
Boy, don't I know that......And I don't know what to do about it. I would
dearly like to blame creeping socialism on it.....Do you think I've got a
chance with that? I believe the HMO's are colluding with each other and
with our elected reps to make laws and contracts in restraint of trade. -
And I am the one getting screwed by this......
Most Canadian provinces have gone through 10 years or so of gutwrenching
calamity in their respective medical care programs, but they are there,
they are good (in general) and they are available to one and all. Most
"abusers" of Canadian health care systems come across the border from the
US, which has resulted in a flurry of efforts to improve security
(identification cards, etc.)
Alan.
Yes, but I hear the reverse propaganda......That Canadians come here for
operations that they would have to wait months for there.....Of course,
this
Yes, some people here do bolt for the border for needed procuedures.
But there are far, far fewer of those events happening than the 20% (30%?)
of Americans without any coverage at all ...
Take your pick. We have imperfect coverage for all; you have perfect
coverage for damned few.
But we don't have perfect coverage....Not even for very few. And especially
for the aged. The HMO's are continuously trying to screw me and my wife out
of money. Every year we have to go through a bunch of crap, where they try
to tell us we aren't covered for this and that, and I have to spend a couple
or three days making phone calls and fighting for what is rightfully mine. -
They know that I am getting old, and they are hoping that I will get too old
and feeble to be able to fight it anymore, and at that point, they will no
longer have to pay.
Comparing this to who can afford the most expensive cars is pure
dilusionment as to what is important... health always is a precursor to
happiness.
Yes. That is the liberals cry....."Health is more important, so we have to
socialize it!" Why can't I get it through you guy's heads that the color of
all money is green? - It all goes into the general fund, and you can't
distinguish one dollar bill from another. When you give the government more
money for "The starving children" you are just giving the government more
money. Period. Health care is no more important than that new dam, or
freeway, or welfare bill, or school, or food, or clothing, or senator's
salary, or anything else. It is impossible to distinguish between the money
that the taxpayers put in the general fund, and what doesn't get spent on
one thing will always get spent on something else. When was the last time
you went to the polls and voted to float a bond for senatorial salary
increases? - What? - Never, you say? And are your reps still making the same
salaries they were making 40 years ago? No, you say? - Well, where do you
think they got the money for that? Now, ask yourself what the starving
children were doing for food 5 years ago? Have they been starving all this
time, until this year?
It's all green, guys. - That's what you pay them to do. Decide how to
spend your money. They've got no business asking you how they should spend
it. They are the ones who are supposed to know how. And health care is no
more important that a new car. If you don't get a reliable car, you won't be
able to commute to work, and you won't get the money to buy yourself food,
or health care. So, to some families, the car is more important. But that's
what those families are supposed to do. Decide how their money is spent.
I don't think I will ever be able to convince liberals that they are
wrong....It is just too daunting a task. And I am running out of time......
