Looks like the sensor from the new Sony R1. I was wondering where that
was going to show up. I don't see it as a Canon 5D competitor, though it
would make a good back-up for a D2X. Looks like a pop-up flash, so not
really an F100 with an imaging chip. Wonder how well it does with older
manual focus lenses.
Canon reported profits being down. My guess is that they are under a bit
of pressure, and not that likely to drop prices any time soon. Compare
that to Nikon, who reported a higher profit recently. Competition can be
good, though the unfortunate reality is that prices on these cameras are
still somewhat high. Compare these prices to what film cameras from
Nikon use to sell, and even adjusted for inflation the newest D-SLRs are
still up there in price. Of course, every year the situation gets a bit
better, so maybe in a couple more years all this will balance out
nicely.
