Another technically wonderful and pretty shot. I like the optical illusion with the red object in the center of the circle flipping back and forth. In fact, I can't even figure out the geometry. Curious and captivating. For me, though, it is otherwise emotionally blank.
Thanks. As to emotionally blank, you may be right.
So why use words like "pretty"? If you can't figure out the geometry and wonder at that fact, why say "captivating"? Hmmm.
The shot is a table top with a grey paper back and top. Back strobe (blue) side strobe (red) and a "sort of fill" white from the left.
Looking through a bellows lens shade in the front to a stobe reflector in the background.
The idea was to isolate the BG object with the foreground object out of focus. (as opposed to the more common BG OOF). As I played with it, I realized that it became almost abstract ... back to the studio and made it as flat on as possible for the "window" and set the refector to catch the red strobe. This 'abstracting' is what made it geometrically uncomfortable to your vision system.
Would have been better had I blocked the red light going to the left side. Alas.
(See: http://www.aliasimages.com/images/si/PICT29331.jpg for an alternate view. and http://www.aliasimages.com/images/si/PICT2842.jpg for the setup (w/o color gels ... and the right softbox was removed for the red light).
Cheers, Alan
