Sigma 100-300 f4 HSM lens with d70

Hi,

I just bought this lens and tried using it with my D70.
The lens had major autofocus problems in the 200-300mm
range. There was a lot of lens "chatter" near the focus
point, and many times it could not focus even after 6-7 secs
and gave up. I tested the lens pretty good lighting conditions
outdoors. Also the camera setting was in AF-S and not AF-C.

Anybody with similar experience ? I am thinking of returning
this lens, but not sure if I should order another copy, or
just move to some other lens (It sucks that there are not
many options in this zoom range.)

-Thanks,
Ram.
