I believe there is a (GPS) device which you carry with you and logs your geographical position at predefined intervals, which then can be used to add latitude and longitude to the photos you took. What is this device?

Alternatively, what is the best way to add latitude and longitude to the photos you took, assuming your camera (a DSLR) has no inbuilt GPS receiver?

I use my GPS-equipped telephone for this (most high-end telephones have integrated GPS, but you can also go for the far cheaper Nokia 6210). One less device to carry. GPS telephones can also get help from the phone network, so they still work where GPS reception is difficult (among high-rise buildings, for instance).
