Funny how Europe is still depending on our sophisticatedYes. One has only to look at Jane's Ships to see that ALL the major
weaponry to protect them from outside aggression.
powers save the US have gutted their fleets of nuclear aircraft
carriers, nuclear missile and attack subs, and those heavy ships
needed to carry out major naval engagements.
Of course... and you wuill find that Obama will do the same to the US.
because he has realised that whilst most of the other advanced countries
now have military systems built for the 21st century most of the US
military is designed to fight 20th century wars of the like that would
never happen after the early 1980's
It was pointed out a lot on uk.currrent-events.terrorisum back in 2001/2
that the US could not fight and win any counter insurgency wars because
it was the wrong sort of military both in equipment, organisation and
mind set.
Discussions on Usnenet are hardly reflective of meaningful real-world
actions and consequences.
That seems to be the case when you take part.
On that particular NG mentioned above there are some very well informed people.
Now, give the Devil it's due. Countries such as Great Britain do
have a modern fleet with fast, capable ships.
And we are ditching out naval nuclear ICBM' subs. they are pointless in
a modern world as are big battle ships
And your navy couldn't even protect itself from having a ship seized
by Iran in international waters and having its crew used as propaganda
tools.
1 It was 3 inflatables.
2 it was NOT international waters. It was a border between two counties. More to the poitn it was a disputed border zone. Both sides used exactly the same co-ordinates to show the boats were in their waters.
3 The UK won the important propaganda war and saved the US's arse.
4 In the last 7 years of warfare the US has been involved in what use have it's nukes been? Skip that.. Since the end of Soviet Russia nearly two decades ago what use has the US nukes been? And Don't say China.
I've oft observed that the EU countries and Canada, not to mention
Japan and South Korea, would take an entirely different view IF the
US pulled out ALL of it's military support.
They would cheer to the roof tops and have a party. EVERY TIME the US
has threatened to pull out of Europe since 1970 The Europeans,
especially Germany, has said "who fast can you pack? "
that you have to realise is that most of Europe sees the US as a
liability and a pain in the ass not any sort of advantage. I know as
have served in the military in the 70's and 80's and 90's
You still think you speak for all Europeans.
Not more than you speak for one very ill informed person who seem sot spout more propaganda than reality
And what does serving in
the military have to do with it?
If you are in a professional military and NOT the US military you get a much better non propaganda information stream.
Were you at the command level where
you actually made strategic decisions?
That's classified. Also I still get information from many sources We had some one in the US military going on about that on the other NG so I sent him a Christmas card from an internal mail box in Brag.
And, they would take an
entirely different view if al Qaeda had taken out the Toronto Tower
or Big Ben or the Eiffel Tower.
Actually we have had that sort of problem. Downing street was mortared.
(Like some one shelling the white house) and we had the truck bombs at
Canary wharf.... just like some one hitting the WTC and (we had bombs in
London, Warrington Birmingham etc etc We just dealt with it and sorted
it out.
And just how did you deal with it and just how did you sort it out?
Interesting that your superior anti-terrorism infrastructure couldn't
prevent those things from happening.
But it has... the IAR problem did not has stopped and gone away.
If only James Bond was for real!
Film trivia:- He was based on a real person Felming knew whilst in Naval intelligence..
I wonder what Canada, GB and France
respectively would have done about that besides ask the US for
help?
Good point. We did ask the US to extradite some terrorists under the
normal civilian rules but the US instead refused to extradite and
permitted groups in the US to fund and arm the terrorists.
Oh, that's not a biased statement.... really.
Not at all it is factual.
I can probably dig out the names of the convicted terrorists the US harboured (convicted in a civilian court) Also the names of the PIRA fund raising groups and their activities. Itis all well documented
