Thanks John Turco. I can understand you didn't see the posts about this. We
downloaded it and the manual and the web site call the port a USB/AV port.

I personally wasn't aware that meant it couldn't possibly be USB even
though the dpreview reviews called it a "USB port" instead.

It turns out that any port that handles USB digital and AV analog in the
same port can't possibly use the mini-USB (digital) connector so, I was
errant in misreading the specifications (as numerous people have informed
me).

In summary, reading the manual wouldn't have helped me just as reading the
major reviews from dpreview and steve's digicam didn't help me. Neither did
reading the manufacturer's web site nor reading the box.

They all called it either a "USB/AV" port or just a "USB" port, which says
NOTHING about what the connector was.

The only way to know it wasn't a mini-USB connector was to physically
handle the camera ... and even then, the connector is so similar looking to
the mini-USB, I would recommend people carry a spare cable with them just
to be sure.

Thanks for all the knowledge! I'll bet there are some of us out there like
I am who didn't know all this beforehand! We thought the reviews would tell
us, but, now we know they don't cover the connectors at all.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice!
