I was expecting that Nikon would announce D300 and D700 replacements, the d700 was announced a couple of months ago; you actually expected a
replacement???
but that apparently did not happen.of course it didn't happen. it's absurd.
Nothing would surprise me any more! When dSLR started shooting video, what's next a built-in coffee maker?
Expect the D400 and D800 by xmas!
Because of the 5D Mark II, Nikon needs to rush out a rev to the D700 or risk losing a lot of new body sales, and a lot of long term lens sales. Most new models are merely evolutionary, but the 5D Mark II, despite it's name, is revolutionary. Similarly, they need a prosumer model to catch up with the 50D, and the D300 is a year old already.
They shouldn't have to do any new plastics, just upgrade the innards.
