A BluRay drive will read DVD and CD. Whatever is 'next' will read them all too... nice thing about finer and finer data, the laser can always read the coarser data...
That only works with stamped optical media. With writable dye-based
discs the color of the light is important and a new device may not be
able to read older media.
That's plausible, time will tell.

Already been there. Early DVD players could not read many writable
CDs because the red DVD laser didn't work with all the IR dyes used in
CDs.

But seems to have been resolved, so .... you're just blowing hot air. Again. For that matter I burned a CD and used it to update the firmware on my blu-ray player. These issues seem to be very rare.

But nonetheless BR readers will be around for at least the next 20 years. More like 40 - 50.

You _are_ an idiot.

Demonstrably not. Look at the cassette tape. Introduced in 1963, it is still supported, manufactured and distributed, though in decline. That's over 40 years for a mechanically quaint device. A much simpler device such as DVD or BR disc has the potential to go much longer.

OTOH, you are clearly one who attacks others for no good reason other than your own beliefs are shown to be wrong or flawed. This has been your pattern in this and other threads.
