This is true. Many see the US government and the people as two entities. Americans as individuals are usually given the benefit of the doubt for the first 30 seconds.

Perhaps by you, and many here, and the same holds true for many US citizens' acceptance of individuals from nations where their gov't is rotten, or incompetent, or based on a system the free world can't abide.

Nevertheless, Doug's rant was a general attack on citizens in the US,

Probably but you will have to get used to it. Most of the other countries who are rotten have not invaded , probably illegally, two other countries and caused a lot of problems in the world. .

The others keep it in their own countries. As the US exports it you will have to get used to it if you wander round international groups.
