On my old PC when I connected my Canon Ixus 60 to a USB socket I would
get a simple pop-up window automatically downloading the files and
then asking me to confirm I wished to delete them. Somehow on my new
PC I've screwed up this tidy setup, and I now get this window:
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/7932/canodownloads1nb6.jpg
That in turn triggers a wizard, and ends with an unwanted image
editing step. Worse, somehow the creation dates of the files
transferred in this way get altered. A GMT time of 18:25 became 20:25!
Anyone know how I can revert to the simple downloading method please?

You've trained your computer to launch the Canon Camera Window when the
camera is connected. You want to untrain it, apparently.
Connect the camera and turn it on. When Camera Window comes up, close it
without taking any action.
Then go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Scanner and Camera Wizard.
Now, I have both a scanner and the camera connected, so the Wizard asks
which device I want to use. I highlight the Canon and then click on
Properties. From there, I can specify what is to happen when the camera is
connected, and which program is to launch. Sounds like you want to choose
the Microsoft Camera Wizard...
I prefer the Canon software, myself. Perhaps what you really need to do is
check File > Preferences, and set things the way you'd like them.

Thanks dwight, appreciate the advice. I'm darned if I can remember
exactly what I did a year or so ago on the old PC when I got the
Canon. I wasn't using the MS Scanner/Camera Wizard, nor do I want to.
Last night I found the user guide and came to the tentative conclusion
that I must have decided last time *not* to install the Canon
software. (Frankly I find page 16 a tad unclear, but interpret it as
"If you want to use the 'Computer Procedure' on an XP PX, don't
install the software." So, as I did install it on this new PC, I've
now duly removed all of it.
That certainly gets rid of the wizard and those pesky .THM files etc.
However there's now *no* automatic behaviour at all. So I don't get
the minor assistance I described in my OP, which is a pity. I now have
to open the 'special' Canon folder in \My Computer, copy its files to
the folder of my choice, do my renaming (and any obvious deletions)
there, move them to their final destination, i.e. subfolders of \My
Pictures\Photos, and then delete the files from the Canon folder.
I'm happy enough with that, but if you or anyone else have any other
ideas on how I was achieving that 'middle way', please let me know.
