I have been using my HP Photosmart 3110 since last year. Until

Others have already asked if you've changed the ink cartridges. Assuming you've done that and it's still printing light, the print head might be wearing out.

I assume that you are comparing the printed images with the images you see on your monitor. If that is the case, perhaps the problem is not with the printer, but with the the monitor calibration. You might want to check that aspect out.
