Hi
New so please excuse me if I've missed answers elsewhere. Read the
thread but still confused/got a problem! Tried to load 1300 jpeg photos
onto an SD card using a Card Reader and I ended up with a bunch of
additional folders and files with bizarre names/titles. Read some notes
on maximum file numbers and checked that the SD card was FAT 32
formatted - reformatted and tried again - same problem. I then
reformatted and tried adding folders to the card and transferring some
pictures into each folder. The first has 250 photos, the 2nd 219, the
3rd 207. I then inserted it into my digital photo frame and all was
well. Then tried to add 3 additional folders and put roughly the same
number of pics in each as before. Folder 4, 5 and 6 all became
corrupted with multiple folders/files on each that I could neither
delete nor access. I have a 4GB card and simply don't understand how to
resolve this problem. Grateful for any help please. many thanks.
Are the files corrupted BEFORE the card is placed in the picture frame?
YES:
You might have a counterfeit 4GB card. It may actually be a 2 GB card
with a hacked boot record. To prove this, you'll want to try to write 3
GB to the card. Ripping 3-4 Music CDs as WAV (no compression) is an
easy way to get a manageable number of large files.
NO:
The picture frame firmware can't handle that number of files. Without
careful thought, it's easy to create a filesystem manager that crashes
from too many files. The file manager starts reading a directory, and
stores the directory contents in RAM, for features like sorting. It
encounters a folder, and adds the contents of that to RAM, etc.
Eventually it runs out of RAM, and crashes. This was the nature of the
bug that almost crippled the Mars rovers.
This type of failure usually should NOT corrupt the files, but that's
design-dependent.
