Did you check the wire to see if it works with any other USB
device? If it's a bad wire instead of a defective USB port on the
camera or computer, then a new wire would be cheaper than a firewire
adapter.
There are alternatives other than firewire, but first check to see
if your camera's USB mode was changed. Some Finepix cameras have
alternative settings to allow using WebCam mode or sending photos to
a printer. If this setting was changed, the camera wouldn't be able
to transfer files to your computer.
i am trying an adapter on my firewire so that i can still use my
usb wire,but it does not work. i was told that i need a driver for it.
i do not know where i can find one.
What adapter is that, and do you need a generic firewire driver or
a specific firewire driver for the adapter? FWIW, I haven't heard
of an adapter that allows USB devices to connect to firewire ports.
Wouldn't it be simpler to just get card reader that's designed to
work with a USB or a firewire port? Even a USB card reader should
be able to transfer files *much* faster than your camera could,
assuming that your computer has High Speed USB 2.0 ports, since as
far as I'm aware, Fuji's USB camera ports are all Full Speed, even
on some of their new, not yet available cameras, such as the S800.
The only firewire card reader I've seen is for CF cards (Sandisk),
but that doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't any other SD or
xD firewire card readers. But if you can only find the CF card
readers, then you'd need a CF adapter as well, unless your Fuji is
one of the few that use CF cards.
