[... rant about CF cards ...]

SD is entirely too small, and not easy to handle - easy to
drop. I find CF far easier to handle. Besides, right now I
believe CF can be made in greater capacities than SD and that is
the primary reason for CF in DSLR - larger file sizes necessitate
more memory. But prices are dropping constantly, so it's a
trivial matter to pick up a couple new cards.

All the same, the op does have a point. My camera uses compact
flash. It's a real hassle deciding how to insert the card. The
camera manual is helpful here and I generally consult it each time
I have to insert the card. However, I lost the instruction ***
for the card reader and sometimes I really get stuck using that. I
tried asking the wife, but she wasn't much help.
Perhaps someone could post simple instructions on how to go about
performing this task.
In addition, my camera uses 4 AA cells, but I'll save my woes on
getting those things in right for another post.

Dave,

I like to write on the card "This Side Up".

Then the problem becomes which way are you holding your camera because
if you hold you camera the wrong way around, then you may actually
have to turn over the card.

To solve this problem, I like to write on the camera "This End Up".

Then the problem is, I forget if the message on the camera means "This
End Up" for inserting the card or "This End Up" for taking pictures.
In my case it became really problematic because all I managed to take
were pictures of my feet for about two weeks.

So then I bought another camera. I took a picture of me putting the
card in and another of me taking pictures. I refer to these pictures
whenever I need a reminder of how to do these complex tasks.

Fortunately the second camera I used to document these events had an
SD card so I had no problems.

But what happens when the pictures get turned around in your pocket
and you can't remember which edge is up? You could write "This end
up" on the pictures, but then you've got yet another possible
meaning for that phrase to sort out. Looks like old geezers like
us just can't win, don't it? :-)
