: The laptop has 1 GB, and the desktop was recently upgrade to 2GB of
: G-Skill RAM. Most of the G-Skill people I know are gamers, and I'm
: not, so 2GB ought to be plenty for what I'm trying to do. I've noticed

: change in the downloading speeds.

: More than half of the physical memory is shown as available, but I'm
: sure that changes when downloading is in progress. Still, 2GB of RAM
: should be more than enough to perform that kind of basic task.

: HAHA! Looka here now... I had a Five Year Plan for puchasing my first
: digital body. Unfortunately, due to that huge assignment last Spring,
: and the specs that went along with it, I had to buy in at Year Four.
: And in fact, I almost opted for the XTi instead of the 5D...1/5th the
: cost and perfectly good as a transition box. But I grate my molars at
: the idea of a 1.6x crop factor. I was not about to pop for new wide
: angle primes just to compensate for a weenie CMOS.
:
: So I bit the bullet and got the only "full frame" digital on the
: market. I paid twice what I think it's worth (a new 1n body was
: $1500), and half as much again to get all the extra gear necessary to
: run it (CF cards, extra batteries, extra chargers, new 580x strobe,
: yada yada). Not to mention I've had to upgrade my computers with more
: memory, extra drives, new DVD burners and software just to handle the
: basic workflow. So, when the 6D gets here it can take a bit bite
: outta my motherboard! :)
:
: Btw, the 5D uses .CR2, and there's an updated version of DPP, 3.0.2.6,
: that doesn't crash like the old 2.0 version did. DPP 3 still lacks the
: ability to encode meta data, which is a big drag if you're trying to
: batch process with it. I've got Lightroom 1.1, but I haven't been able
: to figure it out much.
Well, if the 5D uses .CR2, you don't need the 6D. :^) I was in error on that
point, obviously.
I've got DPP 3.0.2.6, but even it doesn't handle .CRW. That's no problem when
we're using our XTi's, but if we shoot RAW mode with the G-5 or the S50, I
have to convert the images to TIF (with Zoombrowser) before I can edit them
with DPP. I wouldn't have thought it was all that much work to include .CRW
support in DPP; it already has RGB histograms, etc., etc.
