Could it be because with OS X, the default user is not logged in as an
admin with root access?

More correct than any other dribble in this entire thread. This, IMO, is the key to any OS security, regardless of OS.

LOL, have you ever used Vista or XP.

Didn't look at my headers did you? Both of my home servers are Win2k AE servers and the other 3 PCs in my house are various flavors of XP. I have used Vista once just last weekend. My work environment is primarily AIX. So you are berating the wrong person and making yourself to be a bit obstinate.

While the accounts I utilize are primarily windows admin accounts, my 2 children do not log in as administrators. I have only had one infection (a worm) on my home pc many *many* years ago. Something I brought home on a floppy from a college night class when Java 1.0 came out and a fast computer was a 266 mHz.

I'm always having to go help someone install an application because they are not logged in as the administrator, and they don't understand why they can't install things, delete things, etc. The problem is that many people _always_ log on as the administrator rather than creating user accounts because it's less hassle, but less secure.

Wasn't that my point to which your lol'd?

Win2000 and especially XP will prompt and non-admin user to enter a admin user ID and password if they attempt to install software. I see it every time my kids need to upgrade Flash. Even my 7 year old knows to call "DAD" when it occurs, so I don't know why the people you help can't figure it out. But that leads me to my next thought.

My opinion on computers is no platform is bullet proof nor should be stereotyped as good or bad. Just like the tired rants about Ford vs Chevy or the Cubs and the Cards. After a computer has been shipped from the factory, each computer is personalized and therefore, now has personalized problems. I have had excellent luck with all of my home PCs. Friends and relatives, both PC and Mac owners, have not always been as lucky as I. Computer problems are caused by what people do to their computers not because of their brand.
