Why do people order so many prints??
10 cents to 25 cents for 4x6 prints isn't bad, but any bigger
sizes (5x7, 8x10) and the price skyrockets.

A 50 cent CD will hold 600+ images at 1 Meg each (2048x1536)
Why not make backups and dupes on CD and hand them out to
family and friends?

a computer monitor can only display 72 dpi prints are 600 dpi or better
Many monitors can display much better than 72dpi (mine does 96dpi), and some IBM monitors will do 200dpi. Still much less than the 600dpi you mention, but go here; www.scantips.com for an explanation of why you aren't getting 600dpi from prints either.

Overall, the display on my monitor is much better than a print, and the size is controllable from postage stamp size, up to billboard size (with scrolling). I much prefer seeing my pictures on the monitor than to looking at 4x6 prints, but the prints are a bit easier to carry around, even given the convenience of a laptop.
