When they first starting reviewing computers and other "hi tech" I thought they were very superficial, but they have improved greatly over the years. There is a review of digital cameras in the current issue which is quite "in depth" considering that it is meant for the general population and not for educated enthusiasts such as ourselves <g>. Still, I never trust any one review no matter where it's from when I'm evaluating a product. I read everything I can find.
I gave up on Consumer Reports after several horrible experiences with
their recommendations. The worst involved an automobile which they
praised to extreme levels; five years later we had spent over $5,000
on repairs (above and beyond warranty work) and--it appeared on their
"lemon list" of used cars!
Consumer Reports is an advertising driven magazine and one never expects to
get accurate information from them.
