Re: Mega Pixel Myth

David J Taylor offered these thoughts for the group's
consideration of the matter at hand:

Of course my $200.00 camera which is the canon A70 Has
none of
that. I was talking of the Average person. If you are working
for a magazine, newspaper etc... you better have all those
above items . Its just that I see so many people bragging
about mega pixels these days, and I ask them how big they
want their photos. They really have no idea, they think more
mega pixels the better the image no matter what Size you
print.

Generally agreed, although I've actually not encountered a
"megapixel bragger". Even the Average Person could use a
swivel LCD, especially for macro shots e.g. of flowers.

I seldom hear people brag about their mega pixels, either, but when
I tell them the size images I save to for my intended purpose 99
44/100% of the time just displayed as wallpaper or a running slide
show, they shrug and say something like "I guess you don't know
much about digital cameras". So, I show them a dozen car pictures
printed on a good photo printer with glossy paper but don't let
them inspect the print with a jeweler's loupe. When they find out
that I'm printing at no more than 150 PPI (converted to MP because
average people don't parlez vous PPI) they think I'm funning with
them. And, as for the swivel LCDs, yes they can be quite handy for
things like action photography but invariably introduce crooked
images and camera shake because people try to hold them at arm's
length. Fine by me, what ever floats your boat.
