I would expect the print to be made to the size I specified in the order,
sized to just fit the paper. If the file I send is not in the aspect
ratio of the paper, I would expect the image to fit *within the paper*. I
would not expect, desire, or tolerate their cropping my file down, under
any circumstances.
Sorry, that's an unrealistic expectation for a minimum wage earner. You
should have known better. If you had taken it to a custom lab that charges
more than a few bucks for an 8x10, I would have expected them to ask you
before they even assume what you want. But it's not like you even went to
the kiosk and downloaded it where you could have asked the operator; you
downloaded it online through a totally automated process. There's no human
interaction there - it's all done automatically, so the machine just does
whatever it's programmed to do.
