Re: OT: Problem with a new LCD monitor

Ray,

The first thing to check before buying an LCD monitor is whether your
system will support it's native resolution

You are absolutely correct. My fault was that I did not know about it.

When looked at spec of Matrox Millenium G550 card,
I see this line: 230MHz secondary RAMDAC (analog: 1600x2100 @ 32bit /
digital:1280x1024 @ 32bit)
I am not able to decode computer terminology, what I see is "analog 1600 x
2100.
So my video card is supposed to support this LCD. But it did not.

Do you have a suggestion for a video card which can support this LCD?

Thanks. Roman

Yesterday, I bought a Samsung LCD Monitor (205BW) and replaced the old

The native resolution of the LCD monitor is 1680 x 1050. But the maximum
resolution I can set on my computer was 1600 x 1024.
At this resolution, everything looks great except for texts. The black
color of fonts in texts is not even. They look more like a mixture of
dark
and gray.
My Dell computer is operating under WinXP-SP2 Pro with Matrox Millenium

video card. I wonder how I can fix this problem.
Your comment would be appreicated. Roman

The first thing to check before buying an LCD monitor is whether your
system will support it's native resolution - that is because with an LCD
you're viewing a fixed set of pixels - what is there is there and that's
it. You can set other resolutions, but the system will basically remap to
the native resolution. I'm not familiar with the specs of that specific
video card, but I expect that is the culprit - I'd check the specs for the
card and see what it's max is. If it's less than you need, then the
solution is pretty obvious.
