Re: Nikon D200 Raw +jpg fine exposure seems off

The DNG file looks to be very much like the jpg, very under exposed.
In RSE I had to put in about +3 (EV?) to get it about right.

Yeppers if you take the +2 off of the as Shot for the dng. Im sorry if
Im missing something simple here. If I change my exposure compensation
to make the JPG (in camera) look correct on the LCD display the RAW is
totally blown out.

If Im shooting in camera RAW+JPG why would there be a 2 to 3 stop
difference if I Browse them in CS or even what I see on the LCD
display is not in ensynch with the two files? I would expect that the
JPG would be at least in the ballpark with the RAW especially with no
post processing.

Does this mean that I can either shoot JPG or Raw but not both because
they will not be close to each other? I have tried this with 2
different lens it always happens in low light or flash situations,
something wrong with the camera? I will triple check the settings in
the morning but Im 99% sure the only thing I changed that would effect
jpg was changing the setting to vivid instead of normal. I have reset
that.

Im new to this camera less than 1,000 pictures so Im still working on
my processes. Before this I had a D100 and never noticed any
differences like this.

Can you post the raw file? That would tell us a lot.

Original NEF is 15 megs. The only option I see in CS is save as a
digital negative .dng. Which I have done, have not changed anything
except
Resolution changed from 300 to 100
Depth changed from 16 to 8
Size down graded to 1.6mp

Im sure no body is gonna wait for a 15 meg download. If Im wrong about
this Ill put the full NEF up there!

www.jhdesigninc.com/DSC0045.zip
(be aware 8 megs)

If there is a way for me to down size the NEF and save it in CS Im
sorry I havent figured that one out yet.

If you allow ACR to choose it's defaults you will notice it will up the EV

and brightness of most photos.

Hey Edward,
My in camera LCD, which Im presuming is being displayed on the LCD
does not seem accurate. Both of these are right of the camera sized to
1024 & saved with no retouching. The dark one JPG.jpg is what Im
seeing in the LCD so how do I know if Im even within a stop of the
correct exposure by using the LCD?

RAW+jpg fine Both opened in CS RAW "As Shot"

Raw =www.jhdesigninc.com/NEF.jpg
jpg =www.jhdesigninc.com/JPG.jpg

If Im missing something here please let me know.
