Is the SB800 flash radio-linked whe used remotely in a master-slave
setup? Its got in the instructions that the slave units have to be
within direct line of sight of the on-camera unit, but then it has a
picture of the setup of one sample photo that has a flash pointed
directly into a fireplace away from the camera completley. What's the
deal here - are they controlled by radio or by flash trigger?

If you have the instruction book, or have read any reviews, you would know
that the SB600 & SB800 use pre-flashes for triggering and function control.

There is a sensor window on the body, but flash light will bounce around an
enclosed space sufficiently to eliminate the need for line of sight, most of
the time.

Roy are you saying the signal adjustments and other info is sent in
using pre-flashes?
