There are several about the same size and +better+.
I replaced my Sony U30 with a Casio EX-Z500. It fits in my pocket
better because it's flatter, has a zoom lens, 5MP resolution, a display
panel that is actually usable (both in terms of physical size and what
it can show), >20 preprogrammed scene selections, multiconfigurable
spot meter, way more configurable... and I paid less than $200 for it
at Ritz Camera this past summer. About the only thing it doesn't have
is a font-facing mirror for framing self-portraits.
I am happy to hear from someone who has used both above.
I found Casio EX-Z50, [ one "0" which I am sure is what you are talking
about .
Never used the mirror on U30.
I had stayed away from lithium as i have had to take as many as 200 pix
non-stop with a tripod mount camera and using NiMh batteries I was
already to swap. I could have a problem with dead battery. Can you
quickly swap Lith battery?
I may have to replace my current tripod mount. And the EX-Z250 might be
ideal replacement.
With my tripod mounts [Olympus 360DL and Fuji 340] I could use TV as
monitor so subjects could see themselves [actors and models]. The
EX-Z50 does not have TV out.
Review at Steve's says:
"Considering it does not feature a focus-assist lamp, the EX-Z50 does
an excellent job of focusing in low ambient lighting"
Could that mean that I could also use a slave flash trigger?
Focus-Assist pre-flashes from cameras cause problems with slave
flashes.
The 1230 mAh pack is less then the 2500mAh NiMh I usually use nowdays.
A few years ago I took over 200 flash pix with only 1500mAH in Oly
1.3Megpix camera.
I have a over 3000 pix on the WWW taken at 2meg and less. Now doing
4meg as Fuji is stuck on that. Pix taken by wife and I regularly appear
in Street News paper in NYC and occaisionally in other NYC newspapers.
Thanks.
