Not true. It *will* take you a bit of concentrated effort to learn what
the manual controls on a camera do, how they affect the image, and the
right names for those things (if you want to talk to other photographers
about them). Once you've got that, it will be with you for the rest of
your life, available any time you need it.
Most of what I know about photography I learned in high school, and it
applies just as much to cameras today. The only time I spend a lot of
time on photography these days is when I acquire a new camera.
