Re: Beware on-line digital camera scam - wawadigital.com

That is EXACTLY what they do. This is a standard scam with the sleazy Brooklyn dealers.

If you are new to online buying, never trust those reviews on the comparison sites (except maybe PriceGrabber.com's). These sleaze bags "stuff" the reviews. Always check a dealer out at resellerratings.com

If you had done so, you would have discovered that these people are actually Stargate Photo and have a lifetime rating of 0.17 (out of a possible 10.0).

You can also check the Better Business Bureau. In this case you would have discovered that they have an "unsatisfactory record" for failing to reply to 43 out of 46 consumer complaints in the last 12 months.

Some tips:

1. always check the prices at a known reputable dealer (like B&H) first and if the price you are being offered is more than around 10 - 15% less, that's the first indicator. If the price seems too good to be true, it IS. Run away!

2. always check with resellerratings.com

3. check out the web site for contact info. If the only things listed are email addresses and an 800 number, that's another indicator.

4. when in doubt, call the "store" first and ask some questions about both the product and it's availability. The attitude displayed during such calls can be quite informative.

5. if all else fails, post to one of these forums and ask.

At he end of the day, I have found it simpler to simply deal with the known reputable dealers. I've found that the few bucks I'm likely to save is not worth the aggravation or risks associated with dealing with these low lifes.

I recommend avoiding WAWADIGITIAL.com! They had a fantastic price on a
Casio Z600 camera that I wanted to buy. EveryPrice.com had them rated
as 5 star seller with over 1,000 reviews. I ordered the camera on
line. The next morning I got an email requesting me to call them to
confirm the order. I called, and the guy I spoke to said that they
wanted to know why I didn't buy a battery to go with the camera. He
said the battery that comes with it isn't very good, and only lasts 1/2
hour. I told him, I though it took 550 pictures on one charge. He
told me not to rely on the manufacturer's web site. He offered two
batteries, one for 89.99 and one for 69.99. I told him I would call
him back. I checked the WAWADIGITAL web site, Casio's web site, and a
couple other sites to verify that I was correct. I called back. They
guy I talked to this time told me that he wasn't the person that I
spoke with earlier. It sounded like him, though. I said that the guy
I spoke to before wanted to know why I didn't buy an extended life
battery. I told him that I researched the battery, and the one that
comes with it is supposed to last for 550 pictures. I told him that
unless they are removing the original battery from the camera, I
shouldn't need an additional battery. He asked for the camera model
number. I gave it to him. He told me the camera was out of stock. I
said that I ordered it and paid for it last night. He said they
haven't charged my charge card yet, and told me again that it is out of
stock. Then he hung up on me. WHAT A
SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They must get you to order with
the low price. Then sell you something you don't need at a HUGE
profit. Be Warned!
