Re: Event Photography Job

What advice can you offer based on the pictures in this gallery?

Flash alternatives? Right now I'm using a nikon sb-600 (occasional command
mode). Any recommended bounce techniques?

Lumiquest relector, cheap, easy to use and store, effective. For an on
camera flash it can't be beat, take the hot directional look out of
flash pics. A bracket that places the flash above the camera would help
too. Only use flash when away from the stage.

Glass? Thinking about a 17-55 f/2.8 for the majority of shots but keeping
the zoom as is.

I'd get 2 fast primes, 85 f1.8 or f1.4, 50 1.4, 135 f2, or 105 f2,,
rather than a medium fast zoom. If the 18-70 is working for you, I'd
just look for something fast, not just 1/2 - 1 stop.

Any websites out there tackeling this type of photography?

Learning is important but often doing is more important. This is one of
those cases, each event is different, different people, different feel.
The more you do the more learn, and the more comfortable you will feel.
Just remember the jerk had to learn from someone too, he has just
forgotten about that.
