Well we see the 5D was the pick for the 2006 Technical Image Press
Association as Best in the D-SLR PROFESSIONAL category.

John, not trying to troll here (honestly), but I've purchased
one Canon camera (a video camera, ZR60-MC IIRC, and a Canon
9950F scanner. The scanner seems to be working okay, although
the supplied software flat out SUCKS. Anyone that has
recommendations on full-featured scanning software for OS X
compatible with the 9950F I'd love to hear about it.

The camera has been a major PITA since day one. The first issue
was that the display (through the viewfinder, and on the
flip-out LCD screen just went dead. You could record with it,
and play it back on a TV or capture, but you could not see it
during recording or replay in-camera, making it basically
useless. Canon told me I had to send it to California, which I
did, and they fixed it under warranty, but I was without it for
quite a while. The camera was not mishandled in any way, the
support people didn't even sound surprised when I described it
to them, so I suspect it was a known issue on that model.

After I got it back, the display would light up, but the
charging circuit would not work any more, and it couldn't be
powered up off of the adapter either. So, one problem fixed,
one problem added. Back to Canon yet again. They actually
tried to bill me $145 to fix the issue that appeared after they
worked on it the first time, so I had to call them up and go
through all of the above to get it corrected. Since then it's
been working okay, although I don't trust it not to let me down
again.

Sure, I probably got a lemon, but it didn't leave a good first
impression. I certainly hope that their SLR bodies have more
consistent quality (and repair staff) than what I experienced
with their video camera.
