My father has been an SLR photography buff for years, and recently got a
digital. He loves the camera but goes to the store to edit photos on
their kiosk. I got him started on editing at home with the stupid kodak
easy share software, but quite frankly its NOT easy - its not
windows-like and therefore isnt' intuitive to anyone whose ever used a
computer (he's doing a great job of getting the pix on the pc so
obviously navigating windows is going just fine).

I am looking for inexpensive software (<100$) that will allow him to find
files easily (problem with easyshare), crop to PRINT SIZES easily (free
cropping is bad, it seems), edit contrast and brightness, and print
easily. I don't want crap thats so dummed down its bizarro to use for
anyone whose ever used windows before.

I don't understand why you say free cropping (programs) are bad. The
free program (to download) is Irfanview, and it does the functions you
list admirably well.

Still, I'd recommend Adobe Elements since it does the above and more.
I use Adobe's Photoshop, but most of my basic photo work could be done
with Elements. I still use Irfanview, though, since it allows me to
scroll through files of images quickly at full-screen view.

I'm an old, self-taught codger who was first in the family to use
digital and a photo editing program. I've taught my daughter and son
to use photo editing. Reversal of your situation.

LOL, I taught him he could edit at home and now he's driving me crazy on the
phone teaching him how to use this crappy software!! So we definitely need
the upgrade!!

Thanks everyone - going to check out all these options and see whats going
to work best!!
