I need help with using PS to get the best results. I've spent a lot of
time and effort taking tons of photos, problem is, like a dummy, I put
a red bulb in the desk top lamp. Thus the results! Add this to
incandescant lighting and oh lord! Would someone please offer a good
procedure with photoshop to get the best results with this type of
situatin I would sincerely apprecaite. I have the NIK filter "Define"
but was wondering if just learning photoshop controls would be better.

Richard,

Depending on what you want for your final image, I'd go with Rafe's
suggestion. With 70 images to correct, an Action can be setup to automate the
process.

In the case of the photo posted, you have a white point (the tag on the back
of the unit), a black point (shadow area of the unit's case) and a grey point
(the metallic tag on the back of the unit). I just set each of these in an
Adjustment Layer>Curves, tweaked the Curve, Saved Curve, then did one more
thing, Ctrl-J (with the image Layer active) to Duplicate Layer, and ran
Image>Adjustment>Highlight & Shadow on it. I changed the Opacity of the dupe
Layer to ~65% to open the shadows. All of this can be incorporated into an
Action. I'd Save_As PSD, so you can still play with the Opacity of dupe Layer,
and even tweak the Curves if need be later.

The Action can be called from CS2 Bridge for all (or all Selected) in the
folder, via PS. If you don't have CS2/Bridge, you can still call the Action
for all files in a folder from CS (and probably back to v7 PS) via
File>Automate. For me, I'd extend the Action from just Save_As PSD, to add
Flatten, Save_As JPG, or whatever. This will yield 2 files, one of which will
be totally editable (the PSD), but will also give you the "finished" JPG/
whatever. Or, you could do another Action to do the Flatten/Save_As [Final]
for after any additional shot-by-shot tweaking.

Note, the highlight on the upper right of the unit's case is still off color,
but less so. The light from the desk lamp is still yellow, but far less so.
The unit (save for the highlight) looks very neutral.
