First he "releases" his D200 review immediately after the Canon D30
and then says that the D200 is better than the 5D. He quotes B&H
dollar prices trying to show that the D200 is HALF the price of the
5D.

His best line is: "In any case I really think if you consider that to
be a SERIOUS FLAW then you're really clutching at straws, and getting
overly defensive of your favourite brand. I however have to keep a
level and neutral head and see things for what they are. "
Maybe he could go to Specsavers,
I such a case, I look at the pictures and draw my own conclusions. As
long
as those weren't doctored (I really doubt he would do that), I can see an
advantage to the 5D's resolving power. Given that the 5D sensors full
frame,
the photo sites on the sensor are larger than the D200's and will make
better use of the lens resolution and lower noise not to mention NO DS
While the D200 does deliver a great image for the price, it is becoming
evident that the APS sized sensors are approaching their limit. At 23.6mm
wide and 3872 sensor sites, there is 164 photosites per mm, or 82 cycles
on
the D200. This is beyond the resolution of all but the higher end glass.
Practically all Nikkor primes achieve over 80 cycles/mm and even lower
grade
zooms achieve over 70 cycles/mm when stopped down to f8. Some lower grade
zooms are poorer at tele end. A good proportion of lenses achieve over 90
cycles/mm when stopped down.
Anybody using the D200 can be expected to be using reasonable glass.
Camera shake is by far the largest cause of lack of sharpness.
Deryck
Point taken, but looking out the 5D, there is only about 60 cycles/mm due to
the full frame sensor. This allows for lower resolution zooms to be used and
still achieve good quality. Of course this doesn't help with contrast,
fringing and edge resolution. Another plus is that teleconverter degredation
will not have a much impact.
Even on my aging 6mp digital rebel, c/mm is 65, so zooms can still use
stopping down for improvement.
