I have hundreds of picture files on both my laptop and desktop. I use
Windows XP Home. When in PhotoShop, Windows Explorer or other photo
software I could quickly open a directory using the Thumbnail view. I have
Irfanview on both computers. When using the details view all picture files
would have the red splotch icon of Irfanview.
Lately on my laptop I still have these icons and when I open a file they
still come up with the red splotch and open very quickly in the thumbnail
view. On my desktop however the icon suddenly changed to what looks like a
photoshop icon - it still says the pictures are Irfanview files, it now
takes forever for the thumbnails to appear and it basically locks the
computer until they do. For awhile some of the picture files with the
PhotoShop icon said the were OmniPage files.
I reinstalled Irfanview and associated all of the files with it. It still
does it very slowly and the red splotch does not appear as an icon though
it says they are Irfanview files. Its driving me crazy. Any suggestion?
Thank you.
Frank
You have not said what the File Type is.
Provided it is not Photoshop's native PSD, Windows can show thumbnails
without reference to any other Program.
Windows will save a "thumbnail system file" for each folder of image files,
after you have set the folder "View" to Thumbnails.
I have IrfanView and Ps on my machine and none of the Thumbnails which
appear in the Windows Folders have any kind of Icons on them.
I have not "Associated" any file types to IrfanView. I have just left all
the "Associations" as they originally were. Jpegs and Tiffs to the Windows
Program "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer". When I want to view in a
specific program I use "Open (or Edit) With", or I open the Program first.
Remember that your Images are stored on your HDD, and are not stored in any
Imaging Program.
