I have never owned a Sigma lens hence can't say about it.

You would certainly lose money. Also, the fear of dust is overblown anyway.

Well I ummed and aahed about what to do here and finally went right back to basics and looked at why I really wanted a camera and whether really needed the extra (undoubted) quality a SLR offered.

I recently spent a week in Paris and began to find switching the lenses about a bit of a pain and I found myself taking shots with the 18-55 mm when the 55-200mm would have been better and vice versa... all because I couldn't be bothered to switch the lens (lazy I know!!!).

Also the D50 is quite a big conspicuous bit of kit and you do tend to stand out a bit lugging one of these around.... particularly on the Paris Metro.

After a lot of deliberation I decided what I really needed was a relatively small, discrete model but with the thing I wanted most which was a lot of zoom. I like the the SLR look and feel but decided I didn't want the extra hassle (to me yes but I accept not always to others) of using a DSLR.

I thought about this a lot when I came home and did a deal involving exchanging my 6 month old D50 for a new Sony DSC H1 (plus a bundle including extra memory, batteries & case.) The price of the D50 has fallen considerably over the last couple of weeks so I was quite pleased (you always can do better I know....) with the deal I cut.

All my other D50 bits I have stuck on eBay (memory, battery, lens, lens hood etc etc) and actually am making a bit of a profit.

I'm happy again to be focusing (no pun intended) on composing and taking great pictures, not worrying (AKA paranoid) about dust/dirt on my sensor. I have total respect for those who have fully got to grips with their DSLR and the undoubted superior pics they can take, it's just that DSLR photography was really just not for me...... it's just a pity it cost me a bit of dosh to find this out.

Many thanks for the responses.
