Re: Nikon retires most of its film camera lineup

Nor are lenses specifically designed for APS-C sensors any smaller or
lighter. So given that costs of FF come down drastically in a couple of
years, why buy a APS-C based dSLR?

Or, think about it this way. If the size and cost were the same,
wouldn't you rather buy an MF camera? :-)

For me, APS-C makes my Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 produce images with equivalent FOV of a ~300mm lens on full frame. For taking pictures of musicians in poorly lit venues when I can't get close enough to the stage this is invaluble. In fact, if I can make enough money to justify it, one of the things that make me want to buy a D2X is the option of high-speed crop mode to narrow the FOV even further.

Check out the price difference between the 80-200 f/2.8 and the 300 f/2.8. Not to mention size, weight, and lack of zoom flexibility.

At the wide end, 18mm on the kit lens is good enough most of the time, and I've got a 15mm fisheye for when wider is needed.

Obviously, different people have different priorities, but going to FF would have too many disadvantage for me to seriously consider.
