To have good low light performance you generally need either a large sensor
or fast lense. The two cameras you mentioned have similar sized sensors
(fuji slightly larger but not by much) and similar speed lenses. 1/1.8"
sensor is about the largest you can get in a compact size digicam. However,
cameras like the canon G6 has a faster lense especially at telephoto end. It
is of course larger.

You can get larger sensor size 2/3" in minolta damage A200, canon powershot
pro1, nikon coolpix 8800. You can get an even larger sensor in a sony
DSC-R1. But these cameras are far from compact.

Personally I prefer the A620 over the finepix because it uses AA batteries,
cheaper SD/MMC card, and supports external flash, which is another way to
deal with low light.
