Martin,

If my D70 cable has pins in it, they must be very tiny and hard to see.
There is no problem connecting the cable if you are using the correct socket
on the camera. The manual says, "Before connecting the camera, install the
necessary software after reading the manuals and reviewing the system
requirements." You must have the software for it to upload correctly.

But, I never use the cable for up loading photos to the computer. It is such
a pain to hook up a cable and fiddle with the wires.

I Use a "ZIO!" for uploading photos to a computer from a camera card. The
"ZIO!" is a small triangular plastic connector with a USB socket on one
end, and a inlet socket for a camera card on the other end. You put the
card in to the "ZIO!" When you plug the "ZIO" in to your computer,
thumbnails of all the photos appear. I just select, copy, and paste all the
photos into another directory on my computer. You can actually review the
full size photos from the card, but I like to have them on my computer
before review. The "ZIO!" functions like another disk, but I never upload to
the "ZIO!". I'm afraid it might mess it up.

If you purchase a "ZIO" connector be sure to get the one for a "Comcast
Flash" or other equivalent brand card you may be using. I also have a "Zio"
for a "Smart Media" card that I use with other cameras that use "Smart
Media" cards. "ZIO" connectors also require installing the software that
comes with it..
