Some die-hards say that LCDs suck for critical color work. About this time last year I switched from a high-end Viewsonic CRT to a Samsung 213T LCD.
After a lot more research, I finally purchased a Samsung 193p+ LCD monitor. It cost more than I was hoping to pay, but I'm very pleased with it. The colors are all very accurate with none of the "washing out" I experienced with the other LCD's I tried. It has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, so blacks really do seem black. And the viewing angles are huge, so I don't have any of that weird shimmering as I move my head from side to side.
Intrinsically, LCDs are much brighter than CRTs.
That's the one issue I still have with LCD's. Even with the brightness
turned way down on my 193p+, staring at a white screen can be rather
blinding (email, web site, word processor, etc.). But it's not a
problem for most things and certainly better than any of the other
LCD's I tried.
I think the biggest change I'm dealing with now is the switch from
800x600 rez I was running on my old CRT to the 1280x1024 rez I run on
the LCD. Everything is so tiny. :) I'm slowly changing font sizes and
whatnot to make it easier on the eye's, but there are still many
things that can't be resized.
I LOVE the extra desk space though! :)
My solution to the "...staring at a white screen..." discomfort was to use Windows' controls to change the various backgrounds' colors from white to a very mild yellowish tint. It may not actually help, but it makes me feel as if I had a little control over the on-screen environment.
