Additional information:
After reading that the Rebel is the Canon entry level dSLR, I started
reading the posts that pertain to that camera. It appears that opinion
on the "kit" lens is pretty low. Assuming I got talked out of the kit
or packaged lens, bought a body only, and wanted a reasonably good
replacement for that what would that be?
