Damn it was cold, dark & miserable weather!
;-)
However,
after she retires in a few years we'll have much more time for travel.
We were going to stay at the Marriot on the Champs Elysees but the
price we got was 495 Euros a night. We're going with a Platinum
upgrade package but we weren't guanateed and boulevard view so it
looks like the Renaisance near the Louvre (where we have a
reservation) or there is a Westin right off (South) of the Champs
Elysees both are 300 Euros with upgades and breakfast or concierge
lounge.

Don't go to Paris in the middle of July. It is far too hot and the Parisian's all go on holiday, leaving lots of things shut. Why not try Saumur, where I was on 14/7/1990.
OTOH I was in Paris on 14/7/1991* and watched the victory parade down the Champs' Elysees. I doubt you could capture the moment without film industry standard movie cameras and sound.
Can't help on the camera :-(
"Alan" <alanremovecalan@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:ven73516ocd1v18cfe24lld4j9uuggppo2@xxxxxxxxxxI am going to Paris and I am at a point where I need to make a
permanent decision about a camera. I have a Nikon F5 and an awful
Kodak 8 mpx camera that I can't stand. My options are a Canon G10,
the Nikon equivalent, a D90, D5000 or buy another D300. I bought one
2 Decembers ago and returned it when the SONY hit the 24 mpx full
frame level. I still have some decent lenses for the f5 (a tokina
zoom and a tamron 90mm portrait lens and a 75-300 Nikon cheapie) but
none of them are VR. I also have a Nikon 280 flash.
I never take photographs anymore because I don't want to use film. The
G10 seems to take pretty good pictures, but of course doesn't have the
versatility of the DLSRs. I have a feeling that the D5000 doesn't do
well with the older lenses like the D40s. The idea of being able to
do video is something I kind of like. I don't want to carry two
cameras. I am not even sure I want to carry the DSLR and a few
lenses. But I have a feeling that for many things, one good zoom will
give me a decent amount of flexibility.
So, because of the old lenses, should I rule out the d5000? How is
the video on the d90 as compared to the d5000?
For $450 am I better off just getting the G10 and see how that feels
and I can deal with a DSLR that has everything I want at a later date.
It seems as though it is good to have a top quality point and shoot
for all those times you don't want to have to schlep the big brothers.
