If anyone here is using the Tamron SP AF 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD (IF)
Macro lens could you please reply with a short review of it please?
Also, what camera do you have it mounted on?

Thanks,
Bob
Use, no. Test, yes. Better than the Sigma equivalent, but not as good as the Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 on the D300. Good though, very good for the price. I'm considering one.

Here's dpreview's review:

http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/tamron_70-200_2p8_c16/

I'm not sure it's fair to compare it to Nikon's 70-200mm f/2.8 because
the Tamron doesn't have VR or a USM focus motor. It's probably more
fair to compare it to the 80-200 f/2.8D ED. Compared to that lens,
the Tamron's price advantage isn't nearly as great. Other than the
Tamron's macro close focus ability, I don't think it can keep up with
the 80-200 in everyday use and quality.

I'd be interested to know if the focus problems dpreview reported with
the Canon bodies also applies to Nikon bodies.

You might find Steve, that reverse engineered lenses made to suit Canon EOS interface all have focus issues of one kind or another. I'm guessing here but I'd think it's to do with Canon's patents. The workaround Sigma and Tamron use isn't the real thing. I've seen many EOS cameras (digital and film) that have middle distance focus problems with copy-cat lenses.

Canon is about the only brand of camera you really should stick with same brand lenses. It's a pity really because there are some very nice lenses out there that do better than the "l" stuff but lose the interface and auto focus when you use an adaptor.

Nikon on the other hand make exceptional lenses that are not all that far off the cost of the copy-cat stuff. So why would you bother when for a few nights off the booze or a few tanks full of gas, you can get the real deal?
