Yeah .. I've taken the CF card from my old D70 and popped it into the new
D300 and started shooting with no problem. OTOH, My old Nikon 5400 would
use the same cards as the D70 but insisted on creating its own folder rather
than using the D70's.
The D200 & D700 make their own folders like that.
This is SD, not CF, but so to my D60 and D90. Whatever of the two I
format the card in provides the label for the card (what shows up in
on my computer's sofware is a card named NIKON_D90 or NIKON_D60), and the
subdirectories that the images actually appear in are named 100ncd60 and
100ncd90.
