No, it does matter. If you work with page layout programs,
they normally place images at native size - by dimensions not
dpi. This is really annoying because you drop an image on to
an A4 page and the damn thing turns out to be 3 feet wide,
with the grab handles for resizing somewhere off your screen.
It is not an insuperable problem, I live with it and so does
every other magazine designer. [] David

Isn't it about time the software worked /for/ you rather than
/against/ you?

David, I am a simple guy. Not simple minded but I like to view
complex problems in simple terms. Since the source of ALL prints
must, of necessity, start with the available pixel map, doesn't
it naturally follow that one way or another, either the user or
the software or both must make the conversion from raw pixels to
PPI as the print comes out?

I stopped referring to PPI as DPI ages ago the same as I stopped
worrying about the DPI shown in EXIF so long as my software
allows me to override the embedded DPI/PPI by telling it what
size I want to print to be regardless of the resolution is. Of
course, I must use the CPU between my ears to make a judgment on
how many pixels is enough ...
