I could write a book on stupid mistakes I've made with the camera.
My most infamous one was when I just got my Fabulous EOS-1V and went
to the Tour Championship to shoot a few rolls of Tiger Woods. I
noticed something blinking on the top and made a note to check it out
when I got home.
Turns out it was the Exposure Compensation readout telling me that I
was shooting every roll at -3. Got a few dark rolls of negatives to
show for that blunder.
I'm sure everyone has shot at least one roll that wasn't wound
properly in the camera. I remember doing that at The Masters with my
brother's old Pentax.
Fortunately, as I've progressed the mistakes come much more rarely.
One beauty happened last year when I was trying to shoot eagles with
my 400 f/5.6L and my Vivitar 2x attached. I couldn't get the thing to
focus, no matter what I tried. I clicked every setting I could find
and went thru the Custom Functions to see what I had screwed up, but I
was at a loss. Even manual focusing didn't work.
I finally figured that the 2x was probably screwing something up so I
took it off, only to realize that it wasn't the 2x at all, but instead
was a Kenko extension tube. Hence, no infinity focusing.
Ooops.
