Vista is a problem, was always a problem and if the lame attempt at a
service pack to fix it's woes is any indication, it will stay a problem.

Capture is memory hungry. It gave me issues with WinXP Pro. because of
the way all Intel PCs use architecture from the '60s in their design. An
absolutely classic example of backwards compatibility crippling progress.

The latest and greatest PCs still can't directly address memory over 1
gig. They use a complicated method of "small pages" to gain access to
upper level RAM.

What this does to software needing a lot of memory is cause memory
violation errors. This is where one program (or segment of a program)
tries to write to a portion of memory being used by the OS or another
program but is flagged as available. The program will crash, taking with
it all the information and data you had up to the crash.

I know this sounds like a bit of PC bashing but it's not. I use 4 Intel
PCs in my studio... Get an Apple Mac for the job. The way in which Apple
's OS accesses memory is much cleaner and far less likely to give you
grief when you get into serious photographic situations like Photoshop
(advanced editing) and camera tethering (event shoots) or time frame
capture direct to a computer.

I use an Apple for event shoots when I tether the camera and use
inexperienced staff to handle the delivery of photos. When I used PCs
(at Santa shoots), I had nothing but trouble and had to pay an
experienced operator to monitor the PC and re-boot it when it crashed or
locked up.
