Congratulations! The switch to digital is a big one. But, once done,
most of
what you know/learned about film can be used in the digital world.

I have been informed that I need to get a "Card Reader" to
get the photos into my computer.

Since you can easily transfer imagines DIRECTLY from the camera to your
computer, you don't really NEED a card reader, but they come highly
recommended.

Can someone please recommend what to get

I recommend the one I use: Lexar Multi-Card USB 2.0 Card Reader.

I have purchased (and use) THREE of them. One is in my bag, one resides
on my
computer desk at home and I gave the other reader to my daughter to keep
on
her computer desk for MY convenience in retrieving grandkid images without
having to dig my reader out of my bag.

where to get it?

Amazon.com for $26.47 and NO S&H.

B&H Photo for $23.95 plus approximately $4.95 S&H.

Canon EOS 20D

I second Jim's suggestion on the Lexar Multi-Card reader. It reads them
all.

FYI Mike, your D3 will use Compact Flash cards. Oh, by the way, you'll find
an external
reader much more convenient (and usually faster) than reading from the
camera. Do you
know that your D3 has two slots for CF cards? You have the flexibility of
using one slot
to back up the other, or fill both cards.
