blamed my equipment for my lack of ability or skill.

I don't claim to be a better photographer than anyone. It's just a
hobby and I've never blamed equipment for any deficiencies it might
show.

You got to really think about a guy who is so centered on equipment and
fine differences between great equipment. Maybe he could be a really good
photographer if he spent that effort on perfecting his art.

You can actually do both. Fine differences between equipment is what
people look at when they are interested in getting the best value for
money.
